Recipe Favorites
Let us know your favorite period recipes for encampment! But remember that in Europe in medieval times there wasn't always the food we know and love. According to the food document posted on the Neville's Yahoo Group site, the following foods were not in use yet: Allspice, Baking Soda, Bananas, Cashews, Chocolate, Coffee, Corn, Green Beans, Paprika, Peanuts, Pecans, Peppers, Pineapple, Potatoes, Summer Squash, Tea, Tomatoes, and Vanilla. Bummer huh!?

BEER BREAD
3 cups self-rising flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 12oz bottle of beer (room temp)
2 tbsp margarine melted
Preheat oven to 350, then coat a 9x5x3 loaf pan with cooking spray. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until just moistened. Pour into loaf pan and bake for 50 minutes or until golden brown. Best served warm. ENJOY!
This is THE best beer bread recipe I've tasted yet. Was told that Killian's works great but that it's all up to your personal taste. Feel free to try different beers and post your results here for the rest of us.
The stew we made at NHRF this year was really good - I saw a couple pounds of cut beef, half an apple, several turnips and carrots, some port and water, and some spices go in there. Did I miss anything?
